Therapy FAQs

I’m interested in therapy, what’s the next step?

The first step is to have a free of charge, no obligation consultation which is held over the phone, online or face to face where applicable.

How do I make an appointment for my consultation?

You can contact me by phone on 01623 821528, send me a text on 07980 146522, email me on nicole@nicolehuthwaitetherapy.com or use the contact form on this website.

What days do you work?

I work Tuesday to Saturday from 9.00am to 6pm, appointments are available outside these hours by request but are limited.

Where are you based?

I am based in Edwinstowe, a beautiful village nestled in the heart of Sherwood Forest.

What happens during a consultation session?

The consultation session lasts from 30 – 60 minutes, it involves several elements:

  • A discussion about your requirements and goals.
  • Gathering personal information such as sleeping patterns, lifestyle information, medical symptoms or medication, any treatments involving other healthcare providers.
  • An explanation of how the therapy process will work.
  • Practical details such as cost, cancellation policy, how many sessions might be needed.

Are the sessions confidential?

All sessions are 100% confidential, I am bound by a strict code of ethics, which are standard for any medical practitioner. However there are some exceptions to this, these include requests by a court of law, intention to harm yourself or others, acts of crime or reports of child abuse.

How will I know whether therapy will work for me?

During your consultation, you will be able to establish whether you feel you could work with me and whether the treatment plan feels right, you will only know whether it is working for you after the first couple of sessions but this would be the same for any therapist you see, however I am very pleased to say I have never had an unhappy customer!

Please be aware that therapy is not a magic wand, your commitment, engagement and willingness to change are the vital components.

How often will I need to see you?

It depends on your budget and the type of issue that you need help with, clients see me weekly, fortnightly, every three weeks and sometimes monthly, we will discuss the frequency of your appointments at your consultation.

How many sessions will I need?

Your therapy can be short or long term. The number of sessions will depend on you and what we agree on, the type of therapy and the depth and complexity of issues you want to resolve.

Do I need to prepare anything before my consultation?

No but clients often find it useful if they prepare a list of issues or questions written down beforehand.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is classed as a talking therapy. It is used to treat emotional problems and mental health issues. As well as talking, the therapy could use a range of methods including hypnotherapy.

How can Psychotherapy benefit me?

A trained Psychotherapist such as myself offers an environment in which you can express your feelings and gain a deeper insight into the issues you face. Psychotherapy sessions are confidential and non-judgemental. You can talk about things that you might feel unable to mention to someone else without fear of it being disclosed or judged.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis or hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes called a trance. The person’s attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around the person is temporarily blocked out or ignored. It is used to make positive change.

What is Hypnosis?

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but when in it, the client is actually in an enhanced state of awareness, concentrating entirely on the hypnotherapist’s voice. It may be surprising to learn that we experience trance states often during the course of our daily lives, driving home and wondering how you got there, losing yourself in a book without really taking it in are all forms of mild trance. Even passing into ordinary sleep involves a kind of trance state.

The experience of hypnosis is similar: neither asleep nor awake and a little like daydreaming, with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation behind it all. Hypnosis allows you to naturally enter into a different state of consciousness (trance) so that, for therapeutic purposes (hypnotherapy), beneficial corrections may be given directly to your subconscious mind.

In this way, hypnosis is an effective way of making contact with our inner (subconscious) self, which is both a reservoir of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as being the unwitting source of many of our problems. Altered states of awareness have been recognised for thousands of years and hypnosis is widely accepted as a beneficial therapy to access our inner potential.

Techniques can be used to reveal issues from an individual’s past that may be causing them distress, or the approach can be focused more on their present problems.

What happens during an hypnosis session?

Typically, I start with:

  • A welcome chat where you can ask any other questions you have and get comfortable.
  • Induction. I will lead you into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation.
  • Once deeply relaxed, I can then begin ‘change work’ using techniques and approaches discussed and agreed to help you towards your goals.
  • Once the ‘change work’ is complete, I will gently begin the transition to wakefulness, in which you are gradually brought out of your trance.

Does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnosis has the capacity to work for most people, but some are more susceptible to suggestion than others. Being fully committed to the process and feeling that you can trust your hypnotherapist is key. It’s also important to keep an open mind, as any scepticism may subconsciously dampen your susceptibility.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy is especially helpful for habit breaking, stress-related issues and for a range of long-term conditions. In recent years the approach has been gaining steam in the medical world after a recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recognised hypnotherapy as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Can I get hypnotherapy on the NHS?

Access to hypnotherapy on the NHS is incredibly limited and while you can discuss the option with your healthcare provider, it’s not widely available and the majority of practitioners work privately.

Do you accept work cash plans?

Private Health Cash Plans for Hypnotherapy

Private Health Cash Plans are increasing in popularity and can offer additional health cover for individuals often at minimal monthly cost. Policies can be funded by an employer or purchased by an individual, for themselves or for their family. They work by processing claims for reimbursement for healthcare costs not funded by the NHS or private medical insurance policies. Each company offers different levels of coverage, which reimburse for costs of varying therapies to set annual limits.

Below is a list of known Private Health Cash Plan providers that offer reimbursement for Hypnotherapy services only.

Medicash provides health cash plans for individuals and businesses and recognises CNHC registration. Medicash will cover 50% of the therapy cost up to the set limit per year, depending on the plan.

Westfield Health recognises CNHC registration for reimbursement on a limited number of corporate paid plans provided by specific employers.

Health Shield will reimburse on individual and corporate paid plans under ‘Health and Wellbeing’: Health Shield covers 80% of the therapy cost up to the set limit per year, depending on the plan.

Elect recognises CNHC registration for reimbursement on their business health cash plans. Elect works with Health Shield to reimburse.

Paycare recognises CNHC registration for reimbursement for Hypnotherapy on all of their health cash plans. Paycare will reimburse for 100% of claims up to a limit of £150 per year, depending on the level of coverage.

N.B. Please ensure that you check that the above eligibility and reimbursement details are correct with your individual provider before proceeding with your therapy.
